Canada 11: the Railway museum

Wednesday, 17 July 2013
After a good night sleep in our scrumptuous bed in the Regent hotel in Revelstoke we woke up this morning to find it was raining. Arghhh after all these sunny warm days, now rain and cloudy skies.
However, no problem coz we planned to visit the Railway Museum in Revelstoke. Wow what a place, it's not only the history of the railway but also of the unity of Canada. Very very interesting and intriguing.
We stayed at the museum for over 2 hours and took many photos

After our visit to the Railway museum we did 2 short hikes:
First the Skunk Cabbage trail with lots of birds and awesome plants. Sorry no pics of the lovely birds; they flew away :-)

Second the big trees trail with lovely views; sort of Lord of the Rings atmosphere ^^

We drove to our next home for a day the Bed and Breakfast 'LeBeausoleil' at Golden, where we are staying with a very nice Canadian couple in a big big wooden house with great views and space.

We had a lovely dinner at a sort of arty place in Golden (Eleven22). I forgot to take photos of the food, so I took this photo of Peter with the invoice, which was ok coz we had great BC Chardonnay wine for a reasonable price.

Canada 10: from Kamloops to Revelstoke

up at Revelstoke mountain

Tuesday 16th July
Today it's hot 27-30 degrees Celcius and we had a small holiday during our travel: we stayed for a few hours at a beach at Sicamous, swam in the lake with the locals, read our ereader books and saw very very long Canadian Pacific trains passing over our heads.

We had a 'Dutch' ice cream at the DeWitt farmer shop and bought cherries in the country side. So fun to see the positioning of Dutch cows, diary and Holland in general ^^

We also went up the mountain at Revelstoke park (from 500 to 1900 meters by car) and did the Meadows in the sky trail ... not alone coz we were accompanied by many many large horse flies, which we had to keep on a distance all the time. Arghhh, I hate those insects.

We are staying at a really nice hotel the Regent in Revelstoke. After our hike to the top of the mountain we enjoyed a beer while sitting in the outside hot tub of the hotel.

We also had dinner here which was good. We both had a lovely red salmon with 'Canadian al dente ...' vegetables accompanied by a BC Chardonnay wine.
A lovely day with so many different things we did.

Tomorrow we plan to visit the railway museum here in Revelstoke and will move on to Golden, which is our next stop and near the entrance of the Rocky Mountains.
