Brittany 2018 - DAY 12 - moving to a new home and an extensive lunch

Monday, 6 August 2018: moving to another temporary home (2 nites)

The end of our stay here in Brittany is coming near. Today we move to our last 'home';  the hotel Les Agapanthes in Ploubazlanec.

However, before we go to our hotel we will visit the restaurant of the Grand Hotel at Port Blanc.

Reason: yesterday, when having a bite at the 'English pub' across the street of our hotel in Lannion, we met a fun Dutch couple that had been walking the GR34 for 7 days, and stayed at this hotel. They loved the hotel and Port BLanc because it's so quiet and genuine (no shops etc). They were right, it's indeed a lovely place. We started with having softdrinks at the terrace at the water front and ended up in the shade having a great lunch.

We checked into our hotel, which is a charming place and soooooo much better than the one we left this morning in Lannion. The hotel has a nice garden and the rooms are tastefull. 

After unpacking we went to a nearby beach for a swim and when it got chilly we drove to the nearby town of Paimpol, where we had a drink and afterwards a stroll along the harbour quay.

Brittany 2018 - DAY 10 - walk in the fog and a posh dinner

Saturday, 4 August 2018: 

Today the weather app predicted 21 degrees Celcius and fog, that would lift and give way to sunshine at around 4 pm, and so it was. We decided to do another trail along the costal shore. This time we did the Cote d'Amor walk: from Ploumanac'h to Perros Guirec. Lots of great rock formations.

Yesterday Peter made a reservation at a good restaurant in Lannion (where our 'home' is at the moment) restaurant L'anthocyane. We were the first guests to enter at around 19.40 hours. Frenchies eat late.

We really liked the food, the creativity, the atmosphere and the very friendly/polite service. Chapeau.

Brittany 2018 - DAY 09 - moving on to another 'home

Friday, 3 August 2018: moving on

Today we enjoyed our last breakfast at Hotel du Port Locquirec, where we have stayed for 4 nites. We loved this place and for sure will miss the relaxing atmosphere, the comfy bed, modern bathroom, great food and ditto location AND of course our super view from our window.

Today we will explore the area and the pink granite coastal area before checking into our new 'home for 3 nites'.

At the bird sanctuary of Ile Grande near Trebeurden there are lots of beautiful white stones near the sea. We couldn't resist to both make a 'tower' 😏

Moving on to the pink granite coast of the peninsula Ile Renote, where we admired great rock formations as well as lovely beaches and walked the trail around the island. 

AND made lots of photos. Of course Peter couldn't resist climbing the rocks. He wasn't the only one.

When returning after our walk, there was a fog coming from the sea that made us forget our initial plan to go for a swim: the wind was far too cold. Instead we  had drinks overlooking the harbour at Ploumanach.

Afterwards we drove to the Cerise hotel in Lannion, our next 'home for 3 nites', which is far less fancy as the Port hotel, we left this morning. Oh well the beds are good and we have a fridge at the room.

We went exploring Lannion, which is a larger town with a regional function. There's even a small airport here.

Our smart phones tell us it's 23 C here, Mmm, when walking in the sun it sure feels a lot warmer. Sooo time for a beer.

Brittany 2018 -DAY 07 - hiking and typical churches

Wednesday, 1 August 2018: hiking and visiting typical breton churches

After yesterday's day of leisure, we go exploring today. However, first we visit the local market that is situated in front of our hotel/around the harbour. It's fun with a lot of local products and of course the usual jewellery, dresses, t-shirts etc.

I couldn't resist buying a pair of earrings.

We travel to Huelgoat where we walked some trails. At least this holiday we use our hiking shoes 😏

The first path is along a 'brown' river, the second path is into the woods.

 

 

Next stop the Guimiliau Paris close, which is typical for this region and well preserved. The parish takes its name from Saint Miliau who was beheaded in 792 on his brother's orders. He is a saint called upon by those suffering from ulcers and rheumatism.

The parish close dates from the 16th and 17th-century and comprises an "arc de triomphe" style entrance, an ossuary, a bell-tower, an elaborate porch, a funeral chapel, a cemetery and a church with a baptistery, a pulpit, altarpieces, a sacristy, an organ, and the unusual Calvary at Guimiliau

Dinner was in the restaurant of our hotel with a fishy dish with lots of tools; hard work 😏
