Normandy 2018 - DAY 03 - cycling

today is cycling day

Saturday, 28 July 2018: although it's only the third day of our holiday here in Normandy, it feels like we are here for weeks already. We feel relaxed and like this area of France.
Yesterday, we investigated where to hire bikes and this morning after breakfast we drove to the shop 'Cycles de Marais' to fetch our rental ebikes.
It was very very windy today and in the morning quite cold. Super, after all the heat of the past days, it's good to wear a sweater 😏

En route we had several stops at nice old churches, the war memorials etc.

our starting point the shop of Cycles de Marais

first stop the church of Vierville, with elements that date back to the 15th century

inside of the church:

On we went to Utah Beach, one of the many memorial places here at the Normandy coastal area of the invasion on D Day (6 June 1944)

large farmhouses and beautiful hydrangea along the route

the famous church of Saint Mere Eglise with the parachutist who landed on the church in June 1944.

Above the 'Strava' overview of the 61 kilometers through the regional parc Les Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin which we cycled today.
This was our first experience with ebikes. We both loved it and are convinced we will buy ebikes in the near future.
Especially for coping with the fierce wind and the hilly landscape today they were super.

this evenings dinner at Restaurant La Maree at Grandcamp Maisy. It was very busy, so we had to sit outside which was rather cold until later on in the evening when the wind disappeared.

More photos made at the harbor after dinner. Sooo photogenic
