Italy 2018: Gran Sasso - Campo Imperatore

wild flowers and a view, despite the clouds

Thursday, 14 June 2018: we started the day with a swim in the pool of our hotel.

Despite the not so great weather we toured the Gran Sasso and drove to the Campo Imperatore. This time of year there are lovely wildflowers and of course the stunning views on the surrounding mountains, when not too many clouds around.
Let me show some of the photos we made of this beautiful nature:

yeah there's still a lot of snow

At Campo Imperatore the road stopped at the observatory, which is located at a height of 2115 meter. Because it was raining and only 8 degrees Celcius, we fled into the adjacent cafe where we had a coffee and looked around.

We visited San Stefano di Sessanio, where there's still a lot of damage visible from the 2009 earthquake. Heartbreaking to see that in this lovely town there are a lot of iconic buildings still in ruins 9 years later.

After a refreshing swim in the pool of the hotel and drinks (while me blogging) in the lobby we again had a lovely dinner in the restaurant here (Spapizar).
This time no meat but bruschette, salad and pizza.

local liquors we could choose from

I realised I forgot to show a photo of our superior room at the hotel here; La Compagnia del Viaggiators hotel in L'Aquila. This part of the hotel is new, looks all impeccable: new bed, cool trendy lamps, great shower, new soft and very white towels. Love it 😊👍

Tomorrow we will move on to our next home for 3 nights; a rental house in Amandola. Do hope the weather will be better than today.
