Fukuoka - Dazaifu - Saturday, 6 May 2017

a 'bunch of' Koi carps at the Shinto Shrine complex in Dafaizu

Rain was predicted today so we planned a trip to the museum of Dazaifu. We took the train from Tenjin station to Dazaifu and visited this Kyushu National museum and the Tenman-gu Shinto shrine.
However, when we finished our tour through the museum and stepped outside  the sun was shining and it was purrrfect weather :-)

The museum had a lot of officials that welcome you and bow (we wonder what else their tasks were), but this is the same at any department store, where one also finds an overload of personnel. Oh well, that's Japan; service first I guess.

Especially the part of the museum that showed geographical maps made by Dutch cartographers in the 17 century, as well as the paintings of the Dutch living at Decima during that period were interesting. Must be coz I am Dutch I guess :-)

Next was the Tenman-gu Shinto shrine: what an impressive place. It reminded me of the temple/shrine site at Narita.
Lots of people there to worship/visit and good atmosphere. Of course we had to invest in a plaque to write a wish on, if only to dessolve the 'no. 6 fortune paper', which we bought a few days ago. Oh well this plaque was far more expensive so will do I hope.
Some photos to illustrate our afternoon:

Thus ending a lovely day at the 'countryside'.
On our way back from the Railway Station to our hotel we passed a sort of 'picnic place' in front of a posh hotel. We had a sparkling Sake there; yummie.

In the evening we had booked a table for dinner at restaurant Tonkoya Sengyo Ten, a lovely restaurant around the corner of our hotel which serves great food (lovely fresh fish and more). We met Takuya, the very kind English speaking waiter, there who advised us very well. Thanks again Takuya!

Tomorrow we will leave Fukuoka, fetch our rental car and travel into the countryside. Will keep you posted.
