Fukuoka - Friday 5 May 2017

best photo of the day

Friday, 5 May 2017: another day in Fukuoka

Breakfast at Starbucks:

Today the predictions were it would be warm, sooo we headed for the temple complexes of Tocho-ji, Shofukuji and Joten-ji, all situtated in the Hakata area.

After a lovely lunch we took the subway to visit the Ohori park, to stroll around.
The Ohori park has a large pond inhabited by koi carps and turtles, and with lots of rowing boats and other fun floating stuff. We weren't the only visitors today; lots of Japanese families strolling around there.

Some photos to show our whereabouts today:

worshipping means (among other things): pulling the cord with wooden beads

worshipping also means lighting a candle and 3 incense sticks
(that's what we did)

After all these devote places we got thirsty and a bit hungry :-)
So we searched for a nice restaurant and found one: we had a lovely real Japanese lunch

Zakoya Hakata restaurant

Moving on after lunch; on our way to the park, crossing huge warehouses with lots of 'Motherday' gifts. Now in Japan most Motherday gifts are foods, where in The Netherlands we appreciate our mother with flowers or perfume, here they give her fish eggs ....

The Ohori Park:

It started raining and although not cold, we didn't like to get soaked, so we went to the nearby restaurant/bar to have a wine.
The airco there was so cold, that we decided after one wine to go to our hotel and have dinner in town.
After some restaurant hunting, which wasn't very succesfull, we ended up in the 'Italian' restaurant of our hotel, which wasn't bad at all. Lovely meal AND great sake. P. ended the evening with a Japanese single malt whiskey, while I stayed with the sake :-)

dinner at Yako-hai, the restaurant of our hotel,

Yoichi single malt Japanese whiskey: P. liked it muchly :-)
