Ibusuki: flower and butterfly park, sandbath, onsen and Italian food

hot sandbath (an experience)

Tuesday, 16 May 2017

Because the weather wasn't very sunny today, and therefore reading a book in the sunshine wasn't an option, we lingered around the hotel, made some photos and decided to visit the flower and butterfly garden of Ibusuki, situated not far away from our hotel.

We wandered around and enjoyed the plants and the walk. Especially the various orchids, which grew as parasites in trees, the many roses, and the lovely black/white butterflies caught our attention.

When returning at the hotel we put our yukatas and slippers on and went to the onsen. There are many different hot baths in a really lovely setting. However, men and women bath separately as almost everywhere in Japan. Mmm, not so cosy.
We started with the hot sandbath, which was permitted to do together. We were burried alive in very hot sand while wearing a specific very long yukata. A photographer came along and made the photo shown on top of this blog post. We liked this 10-15 minutes experience, which according to the flyer at our room is very effective against all kind of disorders, etc etc .... :-)

This evening we visited the Italian restaurant 'Fenice' at the hotel site.
We loved the food, the wine we selected and even the Pellegrino. After all the Japanese meals we had, this was a welcome change.
Here are some of the many food pics we made (mandatory item):

Tomorrow we will have to be up very early in the morning to catch the ferry to the other island where our next home for 3 nights is located.
